Over the past few years I've asked a lot of questions of the many other Healers I've come across and I have distilled some understanding of the bigger picture. From these and from my own experiences I have created my own beliefs:

...I've also been asked a lot of questions too.

These are just my truths however and not definitive or absolute. Your truth may well be different and it is up to you to determine your own beliefs about many of these ideas.

FAQ's:

What makes someone a 'Healer'

Is there something special that some people have that others don't?

So how do I get started?

How long does it take to 'learn'?

I've seen Reiki training offered on the internet over 2 months or less?

There are so many different "modes" of Healing, how do I know which is right for me?

If it's that easy, how can I feel it too?

I'm giving healing but there's no apparent physical benefit happening.

What makes someone a ‘healer’?

Do you think you might be a healer? Well, so do I.
You are a healer, we all are. All it takes is to awaken to the fact.

Is there something special that some people have that others don’t?

No, I don’t think so. There may be some who have a natural tendency towards healing, just the same as there are some who are natural athletes or snooker players, or racing car drivers or leaders of people.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t all do it. Quite the opposite in fact. All it really takes is a willingness to be open to the process and –as will quickly follow- a complete conviction in the reality of energy of healing.

So how do I get started?

The best way is to find a local group or healer and ask for some support. There are many resources and groups all over the country. One of the most common forms around today is Reiki. And you can find teachers advertising training courses in just about every town and city in the world.
An alternative (and in my experience preferable route) would be to search out your local spiritualist church and ask for their guidance.
You’ll be covered under their insurance plan and will be trained professionally in all aspects of healing as well as all the other more mundane details such as personal conduct, legal protection, record keeping and the data protection act.

How long does it take to ‘learn’?

To ‘learn’ takes 5 minutes, if that. There really is nothing to ‘learn’ at all. You already know everything you need to know to help someone. When you feel compassion flowing through you as you hold someone’s hand, you are allowing that love and energy to flow from you to the recipient. You are ‘being’ a healer.

What takes time to learn is to not give of yourself, but to allow the universal energy to flow through you. To step aside for a while and let yourself be the channel for the healing to move through you to the other person.

Most recognised healer training programmes will ask you to be a ‘probationer’ healer for 2 years. (Don’t be put off by the time, you’ll be amazed how quickly the time flies past)
But in that time, you’ll not only come to understand at a much deeper level what is happening, but also to trust and have faith in the process. You’ll learn through practical regular experience and often will find it to be much more deeply rewarding than you had anticipated –and you may well find that you come to a much deeper appreciation of yourself as you progress.

I’ve seen Reiki training offered over 2 months or less?

Yes, you can even buy an online course that will offer you level 1, level 2 and Reiki Master in a single session –at a price. But from my own experience, there is a lot more to learn than how to simply connect to the higher source of energy. As I said at the start, that can be done in 5 minutes or less.
What you cannot buy is the personal journey towards your own spirituality that will result in your commitment and devotion to your love for Healing –in all it’s forms.

There are so many different ‘modes’ of Healing, how do I know which is right for me?

The answer to that is that only you can answer that.
Follow the one that you feel most drawn to, that seems to call to your very heart and soul.
It might be Crystal Healing or Seichem. Perhaps Colour Healing or Deep Relaxation, Couch or Indian Head Massage. Ultimately it doesn’t matter a jot, because there is only one source, only one energy. All that differs is how you access it.

For me, I was drawn to a number of different aspects of Spiritual Healing. Partly it was the ‘purity’ –there were no other ‘tools’ required, just your self and the healing source. Also (a big plus for me) was that right from the very start, I could actually ‘feel’ something happening through my hands. Initially there was a wonderful sense of energy and heat and my hands literally got hot.

Later, as I became more aware of the subtler nuances, I became aware of the feeling of the different levels of energy and of the way that it was moving. After a couple of years I started to become aware that I could physically feel the recipient’s body through my own. I can now ‘connect’ with someone and feel their discomfort and where I should ‘go’ during the Healing process.

And you NEVER stop learning. Just when you start to think that you’ve got it sussed, you suddenly realise that you’ve in fact only just crested the brow of the first hill and in fact there is another whole level beyond which you hadn’t even realised was there.

If it’s that easy, how can I feel it too?

There is one simple exercise you can do right now that will demonstrate to you the reality of your own personal energy. It’s easy to dismiss many of the ‘artefacts’ of the New Age stuff that so many people talk about. And the sceptics find so easy to dismiss out of hand. When I first started to access the healing energies, there were many times I’d suddenly become aware that I was standing behind someone, ‘waving’ my hands over their bodies. I would think to myself “what am I doing, what do I look like?”
The only thing that would keep me convinced that I wasn’t making it all up was the feeling of the energy in my hands. And you can feel this too.

Hold out you left hand, palm upper most. And then place your right hand vertically over the palm of your left. Fingers pointing into the open palm.
Now, start to ‘draw’ circles with your right hand over your left palm. Keep your fingers still, so that you are moving the whole of your hand to draw the circles.
Don’t move too quickly, no more than one circle per couple of seconds -30 or 40 per minute.
Keep the tips of your fingers about an inch (2-3cm) from your open palm. Within a minute or two, you’ll start to feel something like a gentle breeze or draught against your open hand. Now to prove that this isn’t just the air movement you’re feeling, start to move your hands apart. Just a few inches to start with and then keep moving apart further and further. You’ll be able to feel the energy to a distance of at least 6 inches or more. Proving that this is not your imagination and that it can’t be the draught from the moving air.

So now you have personally experienced the feel of your own energy, you now know how it can feel when the healing energy is running through you. You know that there is an energy that surrounds you and extends outwards from you. You know because you’ve felt it ‘first hand’ so to speak ….(sorry, couldn’t help that one :-)

So if you can now accept at some level that there is an energy, the next step is to have a partner sit on a chair or lie on a couch. Starting with your hands on his/her shoulders, allow yourself to relax as completely as you can. Let your mind go blank.
After a few minutes, when you feel it’s right to do so, let your hands come away from the shoulders by about an inch or two.
Stay relaxed and as ‘absent’ as you can. No need to focus or concentrate, just enjoy the feeling of being close and connected to another living being. In a while you might feel a sense of heat in your palms.
You might not, you might feel nothing at all (I didn’t straight away) but your partner might.

Sometimes there’s a sense of heat, sometimes a coldness. Sometimes there’s a feeling of static electricity or magnetism. Sometimes there’s nothing at all. Any, all or none of the above are absolutely normal and fine. Because you now know that it is real and you know it is happening.

So, I’m giving healing but there’s no apparent physical benefit happening.

There’s a couple of things going on here. Your expectations and theirs are telling you that you are a ‘Healer’, so you’re both naturally expecting for some visible signs of Healing taking place. Seems reasonable under the circumstances.
Your ‘patient’ has come to you for various reasons; because he/she has tried regular medicine and been disappointed. Or they might have a strong personal belief in Healing as a first choice before resorting to more traditional solutions. Whatever the background and history that has led you to be in the same space together at this time, you are both expecting a 'Healing' to take place.

But the physical symptoms you are seeing may or may not be the whole story. Healing energy will be used by the body and soul to the greatest benefit of the being as a whole.
Sometimes, it may be to relieve physical symptoms. Sometimes to heal psychological wounds.. Sometimes there may be entirely different agenda’s in place.
You can always be 100% sure though that the Healing will always be used for the highest purpose.

In fact, before I commence any healing session, as I am calming myself and connecting with the individual (human or animal) I always ask that the healing be used for their highest purpose.

I use this simply as a personal habit or ritual to help me reach that 'quiet' space. In fact, I know that the healing energy will always be used to the highest purpose because I know that it's not down to me to decide what does or does not take place. I am merely the conduit. It is the receipient's 'higher self' that will ensure that the energy is used for the highest good or purpose.
